SHAME! SHAME! Glynn Peace!

I visited the Asbells this week to offer them support and any assistance they may need. In case you don't know, Rob and Candy lost their daughter in a car accident on Easter Sunday.

While I was there, I helped them with a sad task: They were making a list of everyone who had sent a card or flowers, called or stopped by or attended the viewing or funeral. They never want to forget those who had helped them through what is surely the most difficult experience any parent could ever face.

The list was very long, with well over a thousand names of people who have reached out to these incredible people. We were able to alphabetize the names and addresses so that they could find people if/when they needed to.

That is when I realized that not one member of GlynnPeace had offered condolences. This organization that CLAIMS to care for human life - and not one member even sent a card! And it isn't like none of them know this family. Several of them have dealt with Rob in his job as an aide to Congressman Kingston (Robert, Cathy, Charles, Dave). What is worse is that some of their spouses and other family members of GlynnPeace did offer condolences (Lydia, Karen). Even Democratic leaders from Glynn and Chatham counties have contacted the Asbells.

This was a tragedy that touched the entire community, but I guess GlynnPeace couldn't put aside their political hatred for one moment to be decent human beings.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://vets4kingston.blogspot.com/2007/05/shame-shame-shame-glynn-peace.html' title='SHAME! Now, they have gone too far. Thank you Kelly for bringing this to my attention.

Wednesday, the group will pull a new publicity stunt on behalf of Rev. Nelson. Their plan is to ring a bell for each of the American soldiers they hope will die before President Bush leaves office. In other words, "We can't wait for them to die so let's celebrate now!"

The number they are shooting for is 2030. This is disgusting.

When this group first appeared, I referred to them as "Nelson's minions" because I was convinced they were doing this as a way they thought would help get the little fella elected. They e-mailed and posted that this was not the case and that they were non-partisan. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt even though their own site listed as an "idea for action" to "work for the election of Jim Nelson."

But, as soon as our backs turned, what did they do? They endorsed Jim Nelson! It is simple, they lied!

Now they will try to say, "Well we didn't endorse him then." Nice try. Your words have no integrity and your actions are reprehensible.

By the way, if GlynnPeace wants to prove this is not a political publicity stunt on behalf of Nelson, why don't they postpone it for a week?

These scumbags have even worked out a sick proposal for the celebration.

Nelson: "Iraqi insurgents are patriots" Compares American troops to Nazis!

I AM OUTRAGED!!!

I spoke with a Savannah veteran this weekend who attended last week's 2nd debate between Jack Kingston and Rev. Nelson. He told me that Nelson actually said this! I have since confirmed it with two others who say that Jack called him on it too!

The question to Nelson had to do with Iraq being in a civil war and what America's place should be. Nelson answered that "people prefer a brutal dictator...there have always been insurgents. In Biblical days we called them zealots. In the 1770s they were Patriots. In World War II, they were the French resistance..."

Jack responded: "I am appaled that my opponent would compare terrorists in Iraq who are killing Americans with the French Freedom Fighters who fought Nazi tyranny in World War II. I think you need to rethink that."

Nelson continuously refers to our troops as "occupiers" and now he has compared American troops with the Nazis!

No way!
See it for yourself on the WSAV website.

Thank you Jack Hutchinson!

Many of us know Jack from when he worked at the post office on St. Simons. Nelson. Here is the blow by blow of tonight's debate:

Nelson made the opening statement announcing that he is a veteran and a UMC pastor. He said we need good early childhood development. Kingston made his opening statement saying we need good, strong public education and the best equipment for our military. "I don't want a fair fight," he said. He also said that spending on veterans was up 92% since 1995.

1st Question: Should we get our troops out of Iraq?
Kingston - "Cut and run is a bad idea but we should not blindly stay the course."
Nelson - "War may be hell but war is easy. Peace takes work." He stated that we are creating terrosirst attacks by being in Iraq and then started preaching.
Kingston rebuttal - We do not want terrorists attacks in the U.S. He mentioned the Danish cartoon and the Pope's recent comments and pointed out that both had caused terrorist attacks and violence.
POINT KINGSTON

2nd Question: Has the war made the U.S. more safe or less safe?
Nelson - Less safe. We need to improve recruiting (uh, all branches surpassed recruiting goals this year) We need to get back our moral standing in the world.
Kingston - Safer. We were not in Iraq during the 1st WTC bombing, the embassy bombings or when the USS Cole was attacked. We have had no attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11. "I don't think our soldiers are torturing anyone at Guantanamo." (This illicited laughs from Nelson supporters who think are troops are the bad guys).
Nelson - Agreed that our troops are not torturing people.
POINT KINGSTON

3rd Question: Should the recommendations of the 9/11 commission be followed?
Kingston - "It is a metter of security over privacy."
Nelson - "I choose privacy."
POINT KINGSTON

4th Question: Is immigration a problem?
Nelson - Yes. Employers should get 2-years in jail for every illegal they hire. "10 foot fences only help sell 11-foot ladders (good line!) "But the 8 million illegal immigrants are not the problem with healthcare. It is the 46 million uninsured Americans.
Kingston - Yes. We need to secure our borders, fix the system. "And it is time to make English the official language!"
Although I liked the fence line, Nelson dodged the question and tried to change the subject. This was even until then, and Kingston stole it with the English line.
POINT KINGSTON

5th Question: What would you do about health insurance?
Kingston - Local flexibility and put prices for medical treatment on the Internet (cool idea).
Nelson - "The poor and uninsured are subsidizing the healthcare system."
There is no logic in Nelson's answer. It was a question that was obviously written by his people to bring up one of his issues. But he missed.
NO POINT

6th Question: How does your faith influence your morals as a legislator? (Another softball)
Nelson - He mentioned minimum wage and children. "How do we pray for our enemies?" (My answer: While standing over their graves!) "Are we concerned for their souls?" (My answer: Yes, I am concerned with how quickly we can release their souls from their bodies!) "Jesus was in favor of universal healthcare."
Kingston - "I pray for guidance before every vote. This is a tough job if you are not morally grounded."
I'm not sure which version of the Bible Rev. Nelson reads, but I have never seen a passage in which Jesus exalted his support of any form of healthcare. Maybe it is in the Book of Hillary?
POINT KINGSTON

Closing statements:
Kingston - Mentions supporting the military and alternative fuels.
Nelson - Began preaching.

Summary:
Overall production:
The bad: It was obvious that the questions were chosen specifically for Nelson (2 on the War, 1 on Health insurance, 1 on Faith). None of Kingston's issues were chosen (getting off of Mideast oil, specific moral issues such as gay marriage).
The good: The format was clean and the audience was taken out of the debate from the start.

Nelson:
The good - He is a preacher and is comfortable speaking in public. He managed to use some humor.
The bad - He never backed up his answers with facts. He also has a slight northern accent ("Warshington") that does not play well in the South. He also has a tendency to assume that he knows the political leanings of God and Jesus which offends people. He must remember, as a preacher on Sunday, you are speaking to people who already believe in what he is saying. When running for office, he has to convince people that what he is saying is right. The problem is, 72% of the people in this district do not believe in what he is saying.

Kingston:
The bad - Because of the format of the questions, he never got to hit some of his key points.
The Good - He stood in there with no problem during a debate designed to make it easy for his opponent. This was home-cooking for Nelson with a pony-tailed liberal lobbing softballs for him to hit out of the park. But he never got into one.

FINAL SCORE:

Kingston - 5

Nelson - 0

Even - 1

Just the facts

Our group has been discussing this blog and we have decided to stop bashing Rev. On occasion, someone sends us something that is crafty and maybe not so "on the up and up." We call this "Minion mail" and here is one we received today from Mr. Michael Ellison:

Mr. Ellsion claims to be a disabled veteran. If he is, may God Bless you and I thank you for your sacrifice and service to our country. If you are not, then you are the lowest of the low.
We thought you were a volunteer photographer for Rev. Jim and a former cinematographer who has done an outstanding display of work at the Hospice of Savannah gallery.
So, if Mr. Ellison is not a disabled veteran, it would be a new low for Rev. Jim to use one of his MINIONS to make such a claim to further his campaign. If you are a disabled vet, Mr. Ellison, then I apologize.

Here is his letter:
"The heading of your blog states your blog is for people who support Jack Kingston. I don't understand why you do not want to hear from everyone who is a voter. Furthermore your heading says all of what Jack Kingston has done for us. Could you please give me a comprehensive list of exactly what Jack Kingston has done for me as a voter in the first Congressional District. Also, this website is listed as Veterans for Kingston, as a Disabled Veteran I would like to know the bills Kingston has written and supported that would help me as a disabled veteran."

Our response:
1. Michael, you and anyone else are welcome to post comments. We do moderate to prevent inappropriate language and unattributed garbage.

2. Since we are not a part of Jack Kingston's campaign (nor do I know if he has ever seen this blog) we do not have access to a ready-made list. To compile a list of all Jack has done over the past 14 years would be a tremendous undertaking (Funding for the bridge and harbor in Brunswick, expansion of the Savannah port, agriculture programs in nearly every county, civil rights museums in Savannah, Atlanta and Macon, protecting 5 military bases from BRAC and expanding missions at each one).

3. This also goes for what he has done for veterans and disabled vets as well (The first thing that comes to mind is his leadership, including a letter to the president, in doing away with concurrent receipt!) However, if you will e-mail me your home address, I will be glad to spend a few days comiling a list for you.

We must never forget

Nelson: "Jesus is a liberal and God is a flaming liberal"

I could not believe my eyes when I read this post by the good Rev. The owner, Ken Altiero, said his staff was larger, but he recently laid off four production workers, who were veterans.

He said he now realizes he expanded his staff too quickly, but he hopes to have the laid-off workers back on the job next month. It was a long trip across 82 & 84, but it was great meeting everyone last night. If the weather holds out, the wife and I will be taking the LT up on his offer of room for the weekend so we can gather on Labor Day.

For those of you who have read my comments on other blogs, you will know that I took an honest look at Mr. Nelson, but I could not find a reason to support him. Meanwhile, Jack Kingston took the time to speak with me at an event in Valdosta. And it wasn't a quick handshake, smile and "vote for me." It was two people discussing issues. He didn't give me easy answers I wanted to hear. But he was willing to listen and discuss.
All I got from Nelson was a handout full of pre-spun garbage.

I've looked at both candidates with an objective eye, and this Air Force vet is supporting Jack Kingston!

V4K meeting reminder

Brothers,
I know it is late but I wanted to remind everyone that we will meet tomorrow night (Monday) 1900 hrs at Jimmy's. A stone symbol of the service and hard work of the fighting men of the 10th Infantry battalion during the Korean War. The marines are a little older now, but carry the same pride and respect as when they joined the service.

Congressman Jack Kingston was impressed with these American heroes. "It's just incredible, these guys are so humble its almost surreal. Standing next to them, they are true heroes but you'd never know it unless you pull it out of them."

With handshakes and pictures, the "dog" company, as they were known, reconnect with the past, and each other.

While the next generation gets a feel for history -- and what their grandparents went through during the Korean conflict just to survive.

D Company veteran Joseph Galkie remembers one day just like it was yesterday. "We were being bombed and mortared and shot at. Bobby got injured as he was getting off the truck. We were told to leave, but Bobby was getting left behind. So I went back and grabbed Bobby Up."
182 names are on the monument, all men who fought for their country in Korea. Some of the names are even more special, marked in Gold to mark the sacrifice they made, dying in combat.

You didn't have to listen to Taps being played for the fallen marines, or even see the monument to feel the emotion these men carry with them this day. Everyone touching their own name, enjoying the moment. This day which touched their hearts.

D Company veteran Howard Blatner says seeing his friends was the best part. "The guys, I cant remember all their names but a lot of the guys came up to me, choked me up.yeah, that's what this is about."

The D company was actually a reserve unit, entirely volunteer. A unit which continued on for years after the Korean conflict, with a new set of marines. Many of those same Marines came back Saturday to honor their predecessors

Jack's fighting for us!

At meetings in Baxley, Waycross and St. Marys, Jack has spoken to veterans about the need for an outpatient clinic in southeast Georgia! About 4 years ago, the VA said they were going to put one in Camden County, but later decided they wouldn't.

With all of the veterans in this area, we need a clinic!

Jack has directed his military aide, Major Nunn, to contact Secretary Nicholson and encourage the VA to construct a clinic in our area. Now, we have to drive to Dublin or Lake City for service. Occasionally some of us can go to Jacksonville or Savannah.

Good luck Jack!
